Sagar-Runi murder case: IO asked to appear before HC

Sagar Sarowar, news editor of private TV station Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter of another TV channel ATN Bangla, are brutally killed at their rented apartment in the capital's West Razabazar on February 11 in 2012.
The High Court today summoned the investigation officer (IO) of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi murder case before it on March 5 to inform it about the latest status of the case.
The HC also asked the director general of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to ensure so that the IO will appear before it on the stipulated date with relevant documents of the gruesome case.
Sagar Sarowar, news editor of private TV station Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter of another TV channel ATN Bangla, were killed in the small hours on February 11 in 2012 at their rented apartment in the capital's West Razabazar.
The HC came up with the order during hearing on separate bail petitions filed by three accused in the case.
The accused are: Bakul Mia, Rafiqul Islam and Kamrul Islam Arun.
In the bail petition, the accused mentioned that they were shown arrested in the case on October 10, 2012 though no allegation of their involvement in the murder was found.
They mainly were arrested in September, 2012 for their alleged involvement with the murder case of Dr Narayan Chandra Dutta Nitai, a physician.
They prayed to the bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah to grant them bail in both of the cases.
SM Masud Hossain Dolon, a lawyer for the accused, told The Daily Star that Runi's brother, Nowsher Alam Roman filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on February 12, 2012.
The lawyer also said the elite force is now dealing the murder case.
